Mini Cooper S Convertible Review : The Drop-Top Icon

Overview

The Mini Cooper Convertible has always been a fashion statement. Wherever the Mini goes it surely turns heads, You can see the grin on people's face as you can clearly see them with your roof down. Everyone wants to be inside the Cooper Convertible as they want to be noticed.

You can enjoy the Cooper alone or with a very few people who are really close to you. I'm telling close as the "Mini" is as the name suggests, MINI.

Exterior

Mini Cooper S Convertible is a very attractive car, especially with the roof down. The distinctive looks with round headlights with daytime running lights that doubles as turning indicators. Chrome surrounds on all the elements make it a premium looker.

"Not two Mini are same". All the mini are completely different as all the cars are configured differently with different options.

You can chose from the wide number of individualized options, Alloys, Paint, Interior Trims, Body Decals, Etc.

The soft-top has a sliding roof function which allows an sunroof option. It takes 18 seconds to put the soft-top completely down or up, even when the MINI Cooper S Convertible is in motion up to 30 km/h.

The New "Union Jack" Taillights really look very stunning at night. Look at it yourself and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Interior

Interior of the Mini has a very classic design to it, and now the added "Union Jack" theme carries on the inside as well. The passenger side dashboard panel features the "Union Jack" that has a ambient light feature that looks really cool.

Not only that, when you change the driving modes, i.e. Green (Eco), Mid (Balanced), Sport, The ambient lights also change to you you which mode you've chosen.

The attention to detail is really amazing, like obviously the "Union Jack" theme, the stitching on the seats, the speedometer attached to the steering, so when you adjust the steering, the whole instrument cluster moves along. The pulsating "Start-Stop" toggle switch which invites you for a spin.

Drive

It's powered by a 4-cylinder petrol engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology that churns out 192Hp & 280Nm Torque, which accelerates from 0-100 in 7.1 Seconds with a top speed of 233 Kmph.

Handling of the Mini is really astonishing, the handling is really like what Mini claims "Go Kart" like. It's super planted on corners, even on high speed.

Cooper S Convertible offers 3 driving modes:

  • Green (Eco) - It'll optimize the car to make it fuel efficient, even the auto Start-Stop gets aggressive, the Air Conditioner will be optimized to help you save fuel. The gearbox will also disengage to help the car coast for increasing efficiency.

  • Mid (Balanced) - As the name suggests everything will be in the comfiest setting, the gear changes will be very smooth and the power delivery will be very linear.

  • Sport - Engine & Gearbox will be in the most aggressive setting to give the best driving experience, the gear changes will be at higher rpm's.

Verdict

JustCar says: "The Mini Cooper S Convertible is a very fun to drive car, but at the expense of practicality & a lot of money. If you’re after a compact, fun car that delivers wind-in-your-hair thrills when the weather’s good, there isn’t much out there that can beat the Mini Cooper S Convertible. The Sportiness and Exclusivity offer two alternative takes on the Mini identity for a bit extra."
